Run Quick Play on one device
Set up temporary players, courts, rotations, and scoring without an account.
For: Anyone courtside
Before you start: requirements and access
- One browser/device and at least four players. Quick Play supports up to 24 players and six courts, with four players per selected court.
Steps
- Open Quick Play. You may briefly see a loading icon and Opening Quick Play on this device while Relay checks for your saved setup, game, or recap. For a new setup, enter distinct player names, one player per row. Choose Add player below the list to add another name; the new field is focused automatically. For bulk entry, choose Paste names beside Who’s playing and enter one name per line. Add names keeps your existing named players, replaces blank slots, and checks duplicates and the 24-player limit. Press Enter or the keyboard Next action to move to the next player; Enter on the last name validates the roster and opens game options. The Choose game options action (Game options on mobile) stays accessible at the bottom while scrolling a long roster on mobile. Review or edit the roster before continuing. To save and share a game instead, use the quieter Create game link at the bottom of the Players step. Game options includes a concrete example of the selected Paddle Stack rotation rule. Your unfinished setup is kept in this browser, including the current step.
- Choose courts and a mode in Game options. Balanced Mix shows each player’s experience here; other formats offer pairs, queue rules, or a timer. Review these choices and use Edit players or Edit game options before starting.
- In Courts, Up next moves above the scoreboards when players can prepare or a match is ready. Otherwise its waiting message stays below. Multiple courts appear side by side on wide screens. Paddle Stack previews the next teams when four waiting players can rotate in; otherwise Get ready names the waiting players while results determine who joins them. Synchronized formats confirm teams after every court finishes. When ready, review the teams and court shown there, then choose Start next match or Start next round. Multiple ready courts start together. Taking a break or changing the queue updates the preview.
- Use Courts for assignments and scoring, Queue for waiting order, Results for completed matches, and Standings for player records. Results and Standings appear after the first completed match. Completed scores mark the winning team with a Winner label, which updates after score corrections. On phones, use the up/down arrows to reorder players; desktop also has move-to-top/end shortcuts. Use the expand icon (Full screen) in a scoreboard header for courtside viewing. Use Manage for player and court availability, cancelling matches or rotations, and ending the session. Open Players to take a break or rejoin. The compact panel slides in from the right and leaves a dimmed area outside it, including on phones. Close it with the X, Escape, or by clicking the dimmed area outside; your player changes remain in place. Waiting players leave the queue immediately; on-court players finish before resting and can cancel their planned break. Rejoining players go to the end of the queue. Fixed pairs need both partners ready; Court Climb waits for everyone to rejoin. For mixed-partner Paddle Stack, use Add a player inside Players for late arrivals; they join the end without changing active matches. Other formats keep their starting roster. The current rotation rules are shown in Queue on phones and desktop. Names and availability stay only in this browser.
- Finish or cancel active matches, then open Manage, choose End session, and confirm End session. The recap shows match and point totals, court time, highlights, results and standings from recorded scores. You can correct a completed score from the recap; its highlights and standings update together. Older saved sessions without recorded finish times show court time as unavailable. The recap stays in this browser after reloading. Choose Play again with these players, then confirm Review players to review the same crew, courts, format, pairs, and timer before starting again. Start new session instead opens a blank setup after confirmation. Both keep this recap as Previous recap on this device, replacing any older previous recap. On mobile, choose Previous recap at the right of the Quick Play header. Previous recap is read-only; Back to setup or Current game (Back to current game on desktop) returns you to your current work. Relay keeps only the current game and one previous recap. If storing the previous recap fails, the current recap stays open.
